Abstract

본 논문은 이중결과론을 옹호하는 철학적으로 가장 유력한 논증을 제시하고자 한다. 그러기 위해서 세 가지 쟁점을 다루고자 하는데, 첫 번째는 이중결과론의 4 요건들 간의 관계이고, 두 번째는 이중결과론의 도덕추론(moral reasoning)기능이고, 세 번째는 이중결과론이 행위평가(action assessment)원칙인지, 아니면 행위지도(action guidance)원칙이지에 관한 것이다. 각각을 다시 말한다면, 4 요건들의 해석과 관련해서는 2 요건설과 4 요건설을 비교하면서, 4 요건설을 옹호할 것이다. 또한 도덕원칙으로서 이중결과론이 가져야 할 (그 동안 무시되어왔던) 도덕추론의 기능을 상술하면서, 이중결과론의 4 요건들을 종래와는 다른 방식으로 구성할 것이다. 또한 이중결과론에 제기되어왔던 중대한 비판 중에 하나는 ‘행위에 대한 평가’와 ‘행위자에 대한 평가’를 혼동하고 있다는 비판인데, 이 비판을 물리치기 위해서는 이중결과론의 주된 기능을 행위지도기능으로 보아야 한다고 주장할 것이다. 아울러, 이중결과론이 우리의 도덕직관과 이 직관의 근거를 얼마나 잘 설명할 수 있는지를 시험하기 위해서, 트롤리사례들을 검토할 것이다.

This paper will provide the most convincing argument in favor of the Doctrine of Double Effect. For this purpose, it will distinguish the two-part principle and the four-part principle and compare them. In addition, it will concentrate on the function of moral reasoning in DDE which has been ignored in moral philosophy and suggest a new way of constituting DDE. And it will test the explaining power of DDE concerning to Trolley Cases.
